Bluetooth -Syrian Pop Culture
I haven’t been in the Menshieh (a café in Tartous) for a while. Two days ago I went there to have a Msabbha breakfast with some friends. What happens normally (I have Bluetooth enabled on my mobile phone to automatically activate my car kit) is that I get one request after another to accept messages from total strangers. I normally refuse all of them. If I look around the crowded place to just speculate who might be interested in sending these brainless jokes I always draw a blank. The boys and gals all look like nice, well meaning kids but obviously this is the “in” thing nowadays.
I, inadvertently, received these 3 video clips on my mobile. I searched YouTube and to my great surprise found all three of them. So now I can share with you these original works of art.
I liked the first one a lot (Syrian Tom & Jerry) although it should’ve been called (Tom & Jerry: Tartous County). The second one (Adnan wa Lina) is OK, funny but after you’ve seen the first one it’s a little bit of a letdown. Now the third (Kids Fighting at School) is a shocker. Especially when you learn that it was captured by the teacher of the 2 kids. Pardon me for saying so, but Kiss Ikht Hek 3elem.
A twisted sense of humor indeed, but this is part of our pop culture.
Comments
Allow me to comment in Arabic to keep our dirty laundry to ourselves:
إنو بالفعل كس أخت هيك علم , إذا من هلق بعلموهن على سلخ الكفوف اش رح يصير معن بكرى؟؟
اييه... تذكرنا أيام المواس و الشنتاينات و الفتاش و القتالات.... عمر...
I'm glad you've found them funny. You never told me though which one you liked best.
So the first one takes the lead, although the dubbing is not perfect but it's still hilariously funny...
BTW, surprisingly, I managed to understand 90 % of it, would I pass for a Tartousy? :-))))
thanks abufares for the subject..
The language in the first two is simply obscene, and if cartoon charecters are portrayed using this, then what language are children using??.. Or am I being too naiive and prudish??!!..
As for the third, I agree with Dancing Solo.. this is simply criminal.. this is child abuse in its clearest form.. and when he starts kicking the children to set them apart!!... it is just shocking..
The third one was first published on Syria-news a couple of month ago with a request for public to try and identify the teacher or the students. Nothing has come up ever since. I get so pissed off every time I come across it. Fucking retarded so-called teacher!
As for the first one...the language was too bad as well...ino they could have done it with local slangs but without the bad words...it would have been much better.
What stricked most in your post Abu Fares however, was the Msaba7a breakfast... OH MY GOSH... I miss that.... :(
The classroom video is very disturbing, especially since the kids seem so comfortable with all the violence, you just know its not the first time the genius of a teacher has tried this brilliant learning technique. The Syrian public school system leaves a lot to be desired, but then again, it seems like the perfect place to prepare people for public service.
i've seen this video of the kidos before
it hurts back then, and it hurts now
it was published on www.syria-news.com a couple of months ago, for the sake of finding out who the sick ass teacher was
but unfortunately it's a funny clip to be passsed around bluetooth :(
Welcome to my blog.
I agree with your entire statement. When I saw this clip 3 days ago it was the first time for me. Now I understand it's been around for a while.

Obviously my friend the sense of humor of our youth has changed a lot since you and me.
I understand that they find all 3 clips very funny, including the sad and shocking last one. Bluetooth is a subculture now in all of the Arab countries, and may be all over the world. This, however, is mere speculation on my part as I have no informed idea.
In Syria at least, it's very big. If these short clips don't have bad language, violence, sex and preferably all of the above, they are not considered funny.
Again, this is sad, but unfortunately real.

Despite the grim reality, there is humor if your stomach can take this sort of abuse.
I personally found the first one funny. I don't agree with the context but the dialect was hilarious.

I was indeed after Msab7a and got my first chance to review the clips later in my office.
These are clips enjoyed Syriawide by teenagers. Whether we approve or not, they seem to be enjoying this nonsense, probably for lack of a better way to waste their time.

The accent is very "cute" as you've said, but isn't Tartoussi! You're right, I wonder what "arrested" development these kids will go through. I wonder what will become of them.

I included all 3 videos in my post because, to a certain extent, they represent a random selection of what the kids are exchanging with the bluetooth technology. The level of humor, if any, is very subjective and this post was intended just to illustrate what's going on at a certain time in Syria.
There is something wrong. I didn't offer any solution although I expressed my resentment to the "kids" video using the same dirty language flying around. And, it seemed strangely appropriate.
Talking of the first clip, the only part I found disturbing was the blasphemous phrase, other than that I think the language used was quite normal and amusing. (yes there was the cuss, but it is comedy after all)...
Am I being an obscene person in this case?? should I be worried??
I have often wondered how so! But I always get the same answer:)
I believe it is 'you-know-who' accent...
:)
The educational system in our countries is corrupt exactly as the political one!? What the hell…where is the ministry of education!
The so called 'Ministry of Education' has taken their sleeping pills long time ago and never woke up since...
And of course, it's not like they will be able to change anything when they do wake up...
ما فاز إلا النوم
I guess most of the ministries are in deep comma EVERYWHERE I guess the average citizen has no clue about the kind of education his kids are getting & its so sad ….
